Christine Brown is a professor in the Department of Banking and Finance.
Christine completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne, and prior to joining Monash University in 2010, held several positions at the University of Melbourne. She has also had visiting research positions at the University of Strathclyde, Queens University in Belfast, Manchester University and the University of Bristol.
She has extensive experience in executive education, teaching for over ten years on the joint ANZ/University of Melbourne Understanding Treasury Management program.
Her current research interests are in corporate finance including share repurchases and capital issuance.
A theme of her Australian research has been the taxation treatment of different methods of capital management.
Christine has made a significant contribution to the debate on shareholder equity and off-market buybacks, and has consulted to the Australian Treasury and advised the Board of Taxation in its review of off-market buybacks. Her current research questions the tax treatment of off-market buybacks in Australia.
