Dr Paulo Santos is a senior lecturer in the Department of Economics at Monash Business School.
His research interests are at the intersection of economics and sociology and also of economics and natural resource management – and in using insights from these different areas into understanding why poverty is persistent.
With more than 70 per cent of the differences in income or life expectancy across the world are due to circumstances beyond one’s control: the place where we are born or our parent’s wealth, he wants to understand why these differences still persist and what can be done to change it.
